Your mental health is just as important as your physical health for you to maintain, and not many people realize that both can be fragile.  Through no fault of your own, or even if you’re going through a hard time emotionally, you can find that mental health conditions can present themselves really out of nowhere.  That’s why it’s so important that you are able to recognize the signs, and find help when you really need it. Of course this isn’t always easy, as the way that you think is really the way that you see the world, and that can make it extremely difficult to know when it’s time to seek help.

In most cases the symptoms of an issue where you should seek mental health counseling can be so subtle that you don’t really notice them unless you really give them some major thought.  That’s why it’s really important that you know what to look for, or signs on why you could be feeling a certain way.  Here are 4 major signs that you can see and that can push you towards needing to get some sort of help for your mental health before it deteriorates.  Remember to always take action if you fear the worst, so that you can be sure that you get help before it’s too late.

1) Noticeable Personality Change

If you just don’t feel like yourself for an extended period of time, and it just doesn’t’ seem to go away, that can be a sign that you may require mental health counseling.  That’s because this is a common sign for many illnesses, and can be a warning that there is a larger underlying issue.  This can include feeling more angry throughout the day, having a shorter fuse, feeling more depressed than usual, or even just a general lack of motivation compared to the way that you used to feel.

2) Excessive Anxiety

Anxiety is a big one, and this is a big sign that you could have a problem brewing if you find that you experience a lot of it.  Anxiety is typically the feeling of worry or sense of dread over a certain subject that can really be related to anything.  It can involve your physical health, and you can end up worrying about such things all the time.  Or this can even go deeper and can cause you to stay inside the house because you’re too anxious to go outside, and other such situations.  Either way, if you find that your anxiety hangs around for long periods of time, and involves things that just don’t make sense, mental health counseling might be worth looking into.

3) Major Change in Eating and Sleeping Habits.

This is another sign that you may need a mental health counselor, because it can be a part of an underlying condition.  This is different from just being involved in something new like a hobby or other interest that’s keeping you up late at night, and but it can be related to stress oftentimes.  If your habits are changing like your eating schedule or appetite in general, and your sleeping is being affected, you’re going to find that this can be a major sign of an underlying problem.

4) Prolonged Depression and Negative Feelings.

This is another major sign that you need help, and one that you should never ignore.  While it’s true that everyone can get a bit down on themselves sometimes, and can turn to being depressed and feeling bad, this is also something that needs to be kept in check.  If you can’t get back on the horse and stop feeling negatively, it’s a sign that there could be a deeper problem in there.  Especially because depression can be a really hard condition to fight back from once it takes hold, so it’s important to seek the help of a mental health counselor as quickly as possible.
