A Guide to Choosing The Right Florida Health Insurance Plan

The great thing about Florida health insurance is the fact that so many companies are eligible to offer coverage in the state, giving you a competitive market to delve into.

Having health insurance should be a no-brainer for everyone, so that you can be sure that you’re covered in the case of an emergency.  The cost of healthcare is really astronomical, and those are bills that you do not want to have to pay for yourself, so it’s really important that you have insurance that you can count on to help you out.  Living in a state like Florida is actually pretty advantageous as well, especially when you’re looking for health insurance.  There are so many nationally operating companies that provide insurance to florida that you’re assured of finding a plan that works for you.

However, that also means that you want to have a good idea of what sort of plan you would like to purchase, so that you can be sure you have insurance coverage that you can count on.  For that reason, you want to assess which sort of insurance you’re on the hunt for, to be sure that you’re going to be able to find the best florida health insurance plan for your family.

Most typically this means choosing amongst the three most common types of plans, HMO, PPO and EPO.

-HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization, and is an insurance method by which you go through a primary care physician for all of your medical care.  In order to have your medical operations covered, the primary care physician has to see and sign off on everything, which can ensure a better level of care, or more of a hassle if your doctor is hard to contact.

-PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization, and works by providing you with an organization of doctors and hospitals that will provide you with discounts for using their services.  There is no need for a primary physician, so you can go to any doctor that you wish to see.  You can also go to doctors outside the network, but the deductible is much higher for not approved locations.

-EPO stands for Exclusive Provider Organization and these work in about the same way that a PPO does, with one major exception.  Instead of paying partial cost for doctors used outside of the network, these services typically will not float any of the bill unless you use their exclusive network.

It’s also important to note that in Florida there are special dispensations for employees that have employer provided plans as well.  While some people may shy away from these for fear of losing their job and losing coverage, florida has what’s called the Florida Health Insurance Coverage Continuation Act.  This dictates that you’re able to get coverage for a period of time after your job was terminated, so that you and your family is still covered after a job is terminated.

You’re also going to find that florida gives you plenty of different opportunities to choose your provider as well, because so many different companies apply their trade in the state.  You’re going to find that the florida insurance companies list is pretty long, and includes nationally trusted corporations like:

                -UnitedHealthCare

                -AARP

                -Aetna

                -Humana

                -Blue Cross Blue Shield

In fact you can easily find a full list of all the coverage providers that you can have access to by visiting an online site like eHealthInsurance.com.  That way, you can see what sorts of providers are available throughout the state for the type of medical coverage that you’re after.  That includes things like individual or group plans.  But you can also find plans for dental insurance, as well as short term options if you need a filler plan while you’re making a career transition, or if you’re changing over jobs and you want to keep your family covered.

Also, the same site can be invaluable for comparing quotes as well.  With any sorts of Florida health insurance options, you always want to compare insurance companies against one another to find the best prices.  You’re going to find that the florida health insurance quote you get from one company is not going to be the same as you receive from another.  It’s important that you do this searching before choosing one plan, just so that you can be sure you have the most affordable type of coverage possible.
